Manuscript Evaluation Status

The review of a manuscript is handled by the online service Copernicus Office Editor. Editors, referees and authors are able to monitor the status of a manuscript evaluation on their personalized manuscript overview. Please log in below by using your Copernicus Office User ID.

Review Process

Once the manuscript has been registered, the author will receive a manuscript number from the online editorial support system, the Copernicus Office Editor, and is asked to upload the manuscript files in accordance with the Manuscript Submission.

  • The Copernicus Publications Editorial Support performs an incoming inspection of the submitted files and consults the author where necessary.
  • The Copernicus Office Editor assigns the manuscript to an editor covering the relevant subject areas. She/he gets access to the entire manuscript.
  • The editor nominates at least 2 independent referees online. Once a referee has agreed, she/he receives the manuscript.
  • Once at least 2 independent referee reports have been completed, the Copernicus Office Editor approaches the editor to study these reports and to make his/her decision (acceptance, corrections, revision, rejection).
  • The Copernicus Office Editor contacts the author of the manuscript and provides a link to the editor's and, if necessary, to the referee reports.
  • After acceptance, the author is asked to upload the files necessary for typesetting and the manuscript will be transferred to the Publication Production.
  • The peer-review status of each manuscript is summarized, step-by-step, in the Manuscript Records. Also editors, authors and referees have access to parts of their concern.
